Project Pranadhara

Restoring Life Through Water

Restoring wells is no longer just an option—it is an urgent necessity. Reviving these age-old water sources not only ensures clean, accessible water but also replenishes groundwater reserves, supports livestock health, and restores balance to local ecosystems. Through Project Pranadhara, Sarvada Trust addresses this critical need by restoring defunct wells, promoting groundwater recharge, and rejuvenating rural landscapes.

The time to act is now. By revitalizing wells, we tackle water scarcity at its roots, safeguarding resources for future generations while sustaining life for all.

Water is essential to life, and for many rural communities, traditional wells were once the cornerstone of their survival. However, over time, these vital resources have been neglected, leaving families, livestock, and ecosystems struggling without reliable water sources.

Through Project Pranadhara, Sarvada Trust is breathing new life into these water bodies. By restoring defunct wells, we are not just providing water—we are revitalizing groundwater, empowering communities, supporting livestock, and restoring the environment. Each well that is brought back to life represents a step toward hope, resilience, and a brighter future for everyone. Together, we can ensure that every drop counts.

India is facing an acute water crisis, with over 100 million people living in water-stressed areas and groundwater levels depleting at an alarming rate. Traditional wells, once essential for sustaining communities, livestock, and ecosystems, have fallen into disrepair, worsening the environmental and social crisis. More than 70% of rural households in India still rely on groundwater for their daily needs, yet the neglect of these wells has left many vulnerable to water shortages.

What we do

  • Reviving Ancient Water Sources:
We bring traditional water bodies back to life, reconnecting communities with their cultural and historical water sources for sustainable use.

  • Enhancing Water Accessibility:
Our work ensures that rural communities have consistent and safe access to water, improving daily life and reducing the burden on women and children who often travel long distances for water.

  • Boosting Local Agriculture:
By restoring water bodies, we enable better water availability for farming, helping increase crop yields and supporting the livelihoods of local farmers.

  • Fostering Environmental Restoration:
We use eco-friendly techniques to restore water bodies, contributing to the overall health of the environment, protecting biodiversity, and mitigating the impact of water scarcity.

Our Impact

Direct Outcomes of Well Restoration:

Project Pranadhara has a direct and immediate impact on rural communities. Restoring wells provides families with clean water, reducing the time spent collecting water by up to 50%. This allows them to focus on other essential activities, boosting productivity. In terms of health, 60% of communities with restored wells report fewer cases of waterborne diseases. Livestock, which are vital for income, show a 80% improvement in health and productivity, helping farmers sustain their livelihoods.

Environmental and Agricultural Benefits:

Restoring wells not only provides water for daily use but also helps recharge groundwater levels. This contributes to stabilizing water supply for future generations, which is especially important in Karnataka, where groundwater depletion is a growing concern. With better access to water, 70% of farmers report improved agricultural yields. Additionally, 65% of areas around restored wells show better vegetation growth, contributing to healthier ecosystems.

Long-term Community Impact:

Project Pranadhara is laying the foundation for long-term water security. In 2024, 2 wells were restored, directly benefiting 500+ people. By assessing 5 more wells for restoration in 2025, the project is ensuring that more families will have sustainable access to water. As a result, 75% of families report feeling more secure about their water supply, improving overall community stability.
